Working Directory? - 2009/12/22 15:52 I'm a newbie Magik Developer, but have used an Eclipse IDE before (MS Visual Studio, IBM RAD). I have configured my GIS Runtime 4.0 and Smallworld Core Session, but when I start it, the customized menu actions and field/tab labels are all showing up as the object names. Example: "my!object_finder_plugin activate_object_finder_editor".

From reading other posts, I wonder if it has to do with the Working Directory location and the fact that I'm not using EMACS now to start the session.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/01/15 15:59 Hi,

To answer your question we need to know what version of MDT you are using – MDT Professional or Standard and which release.

Was it the code loaded in your image or did you transmited the code using MDT or Module Manager?

In MDT you don’t need EMACS to start session. You can use aliases and configurations from EMACS if you want to.

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/01/28 18:02 I downloaded the free, Standard Edition (mdt-site-1.0.0-standard-win32.zip)

Code is loaded from the image.

I also tried setting up a Session Link, referencing an alias defined in our existing Gis alias file. But no luck.

I am using Eclipse SDK v 3.3.0

Thanks,

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/01/29 12:46 The problem with messages may have a few probable causes:

  • The lack of or improper location of message files (.msg)

  • Corrupted or lack of compiled message files (.msgc)

  • Wrong language set in session

It would be much easier to spot in MDT PE.

As to configuring session link, I would need to know the details to give you any hints. Also the same applies here – in MDT PE you have better wizards and better handling of environment variables.

You can download MDT PE and use trial for 30 days.

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/01/30 15:23 OK, I'll try the PE version (30 day trial).
Do I need to uninstall the Free SE version, first?

Thanks,

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/02/02 16:18 These versions of MDT must be installed on separate Eclipse installations.

MDT Standard Edition is based on Eclipse 3.3 and MDT Professional Edition runs on Eclipse 3.4 or higher.

Also note that workspaces can be imported only from Standard Edition to Professional Edition and not the other way around.

Re:Working Directory? - 2010/02/02 19:15 OK, well, yesterday, I installed the PE Trial product (which installs Eclipse 3.5 with it) w/o uninstalling the Stnd Edition. I pointed to my existing workspace, and was still having the issue.

I did some more reading in the online Help (Module Manager: Compiling Messages) and the Core Main Documentation (User Environment: Working with messages)... I added the "SW_LANGUAGE" environment variable to my Session Link, and that worked! I had to set it to "en_us;en_gb" because the PowerOn product uses en_us and the Core product uses en_gb.

Hope this information is helpful to someone else. :-)
